How Loss, Love and a Leap of Faith Led Me Here

When the world shut down during COVID-19, my world changed in ways I never imagined. In just three days, I lost my beloved father and the career I'd spent 23 years building.

My dad was my anchor and my cheerleader — always reminding me to chase my dreams. In the quiet that followed, I started hearing his voice again: "Brenda, do something. You can't wait for life to come to you. Keep your head down, work hard, do things right, and don't give up. You'll get there."

So I did.

I reconnected with my love of animals, built a Facebook community called Dogs of Victoria to over 10,000 followers, landed a great job with a publishing company and eventually, during my spare time created CanadaPets.ca — a place where Canadians can discover Made in Canada pet products and Canadian-owned brands, all in one spot.

A pet collective where every product is thoughtfully selected because I want to feel good about what I'm offering and support small business from coast to coast. And while CanadaPets.ca has grown and changed, the heart of it hasn't: it's about pets, people, community and doing something meaningful.

It's also a little piece of my dad's advice and encouragement from my loving family that I carry every day.
